I. Letter To My Lover
Since before recorded time you and I have been together --
You know, of course, that
God only granted man sight after I told him I simply—had—to see you…
And before there was even sun he used your eyes to light a whole continent.
It was only when your lids grew weary
and shut down
that the night would finally come.
Earthquakes born in the aftermath of that first night we spent together -- experiencing again and again
that storm's scorching,
tempestuous winds…
Lest your memory fades incomplete let me remind you too that gold was not buried in the earth until he glanced upon your golden skin and at that moment vowed that the color and essence of that semi precious jewel would be with us forever.
Prior to you, my dear, He had not even created flowers with fragrance-- but then when he inhaled your hair all of a sudden he couldn't stop the creation of rose brushes and frankincense and myrrh.
What more can I tell you except that there is no universe
and only a dark, unscented and
uninhabitable world without you.
And you know I could go on ... and on...and on because I love you and you are not only the music in my life, but the whole God-d… song.
II. Letter to My Friend
Tell me your dreams And what turns you on
And I promise not to
Slip your secrets to anyone
Yes we spoke on the phone all night long
But that was alright
You had to get it out
And I had time.
He left you its true
But that was just because
He didn’t have a brain
And as my friend in college
Was so fond of saying
“He was young and dumb and
full of c… and trying to
get rid of some”
That’s all!
When he broke your heart
And you thought
You’d never try that again
I assured you
That you would
And that the next time
It would be good –
And your believing me
Got you past that misery.
So you say you grew up
Not knowing love
Well, that my friend,
Is an easy one to fix
‘Cause I love you
And a few other folks I know
Despite all that you do
Unconsciously
To push us away….
Tell me your dreams
And I will tell you mine
And with or without a
Mate – we can be true to our own fate
And love each other anyway.
I love you
Simply because
You are my friend.
III. Letter to My Soul Mate
It is enough this love
Given in full faith
That I will never—
No, not ever
Stop loving you—
And the student asked
The Enlightened One
“Master,” he said,
“How do we know
what is real?”
And the Master replied:
“That is real
which does not change.”
You keep telling me
I am one of the most
Bona fide people
You know
And I suppose
That is because
Subconsciously you are aware
I will never change…
I will never
No, not ever
Stop loving you--
I will love you through
The husbands,
The babies
The almost affairs
Will hold you always
(In the highest regard)
Even when shame
Consumes your own
Fragile, newly initiated heart…
Will be there
As the fire
Burns away
All the rubbish
You think of as life
And hand you back
Not ashes
But a complete
New way of being—
Help you not only to
Hunt actively for that sea
But to willingly
Beg to be first immersed
And then drown
In its cleansing waters of
P.u.r.i.f.i.c.a.t.i.o.n.
Will be the instrument
Of your Father’s love
If that be what you need
Will take the bullet
In the heart
If it means you might live
To tell the story…
And all just because
I will never,
No, not ever
Stop loving you…
You are my soul mate
And I do love you –
And that is what is real—
And only that…
And friendship…
And God!
